    No, it isn't standard with Windows. It's bundled with the separate product MS Office. See Arial Unicode MS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    In any case I've checked, this message is from iText (a server app) not Acrobat Reader. I think we need to hear more from the original poster before giving advice. I'm suspecting a configuration error in a web server, not under the control of the original poster.

    I confused the Arial Unicode MS with the "standard" arial family. Thanks for setting me right!

    Certainly you can buy Arial Unicode, for $185. This seems a bit extreme as I doubt it will solve the problem. If you find the font to download for free, it will be illegal.

    Arial Unicode MS Standard should be anyway integrated on a windows machine, right?

    So why is the error message popping up? To me it seems the font (which should be installed by default)

    is somehow missing. Maybe it can be reinstalled legally and without extra cost from Micro$oft...

    Hello Harry,

    it seems to be a missing font (arialuni).

    Any document needs at least similar fonts as the ones they were created with to be displayed correctly on another machine.

    If the alternative font defined to be displayed in case of absence of the original font is not on your computer either any document will have a problem to be displayed correctly.

    You can download the missing font (in your case arialuni) from many sources in the internet.

    After downloading the file move it to C:/windows/fonts and try again.

    Sorry, SimplyOtto, I must disagree. This is a licensed font and to download it from an unauthorized source could be illegal. It is not a standard part of Windows, but comes with various licensed software. Also, in general, downloading missing things from the internet is one of the fastest ways to get viruses.

    Coming back to the original question, please say exactly when you get this message, and from what software and version. I've never heard of Acrobat Reader saying this, it doesn't need the Arial Unicode font, and wouldn't look for a file like this so far as I know. Also, is Microsoft Office installed?

    I did not say anything about free or unauthorized.

    There are many sites where you can legally download fonts.

    Though I found it strange, too that Arial Unicode would be missing on a computer, who knows what happenend...
