Can't allow documents to hide the menu bar from preferences

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader on my Mac and can't tick the "Allow documents to hide the menu bar, tool bars, and window controls" document settings in preferences. Does anyone know why this might be or how I can fix it?

    Can you confirm the exact version of your software and operating system?

    A screenshot would also help, thanks

    Can you check the File > Properties > Security tab ? it might indicate a reason why it is locked.
