can't get adobe reader to work on mac

Hi

Having real problems on my mac air with adobe reader. After last sierra upgrade this week (to 10.13.3) pdfs just wouldn't open - got an adobe error message saying the file wasn't recognised. I made sure I had latest adobe version and updated - still would not work

Decided to uninstall adobe and try again. adobe site said no formal 'uninstall' for reader just find it in applications and move to trash so I did that, rebooted the mac  and downloaded a new version

New when I try to install it says it has found a higher version of the reader already in the computer and aborts installation.  When I look in finder/applications there is no adobe reader that I can see

So i started with adobe reader DC that wouldn't work.  Now I have no reader and can't download a new one.  Help! David

    Hi Davidc,

As mentioned, that you have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application and it still doesn't work.

You must use the cleaner tool to uninstall the application- Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs which would help you removing the application's old traces.

Reinstall it through- Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions

Let us know if it still doesn't help.

    Regards,

    Akanchha

Hi Akanchha - this looked promising.  I downloaded the cleaner tool, started it up and got an immediate error message saying:

<The selected product is not found installed on this machine.>

I'm hoping you have a plan B.  The cleaner can't find the product but when I try and install the latest downloaded version it tells me it can't as I already have it!  Catch 22. David
