Have downloaded Acrobat Reader successfully but it will not open. Have re-downloaded 3 or 4 times with the same result. What to do?

Should read have downloaded and installed on my mac hard drive Acrobat Reader successfully but it will not open. Have re-downloaded and reinstalled 3 or 4 times with the same result.

Just get an error message to the effect.... failed to open do you want to reopen, which does not work.

What to do?
