Can't open any .pdf files on my PC

Can't open any .pdf files either saved on my computer or from the web.  Click on any file and I get a waiting symbol for a few seconds and then nothing.  Tested files on another PC and they open OK.  Tried suggestions posted on this forum.  Opened Acrobat, navigated to Edit>Preferences and got the waiting symbol for a few seconds and then Acrobat closed.

Uninstalled Acrobat and reinstalled.  Did not fix problem.

Downloaded AcroCleaner.  Program loaded and clicked on "next" to begin.  Got the waiting symbol for a few seconds then the program closed.

Nothing I have tried has worked.  Was able to open .pdf files until recently.  Something changed.

Using Win 10 Version 1809.  Current with all updates.

I'm a first time user on any forum.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for responding to my question.  I have been unavailable for the last week.

I am using Acrobat Reader DC.  This happens with any file I try to open.  I have tried every fix option mentioned on the forum and nothing works.  I am on the current release of Acrobat.  Tried repair and the same thing happens.  It runs for a minute or so then the program closes/crashes.  I can't even open the welcome document that comes with DC.  It tires to open but then the program closes/crashes.

My temporary fix for this is to use an old computer.  All my files open and no issues on it.

Hi There,

Apologies for the delay in response, I hope you would be able to fix it by now.

If the problem still persists, as described above the application is closing after some time, we need some more information for a better understanding:

In the meantime, you may try the following steps:

  • Please update the application to the latest version. Go to Help > Check for Updates. To know more about the latest version available you may please refer to the link - DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products
  • Repair Installation (Windows Only), Go to Help > Repair Installation.

Also, you may please refer to the help article in the link - Troubleshoot Windows system errors, freezes | Adobe software

Let us know if that works for you

Regards,

Amal
