Can't open eXpert pdf with Adobe

Hi, all. I have a PDF file that originated on Adobe, but was then sent to someone who has an IOS system, so he edited the file with eXpert. He forwarded it to me and now I can't open it. I've read on the Adobe Help page that this is considered a "non-compliant" PDF. I am using Windows 10 and a Galaxy tablet. Is there a neutral app that would allow me to open the file? Or would an older version of Reader help? And, if so, which version? Thanks in advance!

What is the exact message from Reader, before jumping to any conclusions?

    Hi rhiannon100,

If you are unable to open the file. Sadly, there is not much that can be done.

Adobe Acrobat/Reader is trying to recover the file during load time of the file. If it is not opening there is nothing that can be done using Acrobat/Reader.
