Can't open pdfs from web

Help!  All of a sudden, when I click on a link to a pdf file on the web, I get nothing but a black screen.  I can display pdf files that have been downloaded to my disk.  Not all pdfs from the web can be downloaded, so I am running into a brick wall.  I never had this problem before - just noticed it on Tuesday, 2/14.

I tried re-downloading Adobe Reader (the free software), but no change.  Help, help, help!!!

    Could you please let me know the browser you are using to access the Web- Safari/Firefox/Internet Explorer/Chrome/Edge?
