Question

Can't print any pdf files

Using Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System.

I open pdf file and go to File/Print.  Nothing happens for few seconds, then doc closes up.  Not just on a few files, but all.

Printing works fine on MS reader and all program files.

I uninstalled all Adobe programs and reinstalled Adobe reader.  Same thing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mike

Hi there,

Easily fixed.

1.     First open Acrobat Reader.

2.     Click on the 'Edit" tab.

3.     Select "Accessibility" from the Edit Menu.

4.     Select "Set Up Assistant" from the sub menu.

5.     Click through all the setting options until the last page.  Change anything you feel you need along the way.

6.     On the last page, check the box marked "Display PDF Documents in Web Browser".

7.     Save and exit.

8.     THEN, when you want to print a PDF doc, place your mouse cursor on the file, right click to get the Menu and select "Open With".

9.     Select your web browser and click it on the list.

10.     The PDF doc then opens in your web browser, with a print option available.  With some browsers there will be a black bar with print and download options visible.  With some you right click on the screen to bring up the "Print" or "Download" option.

Problem solved.

I have Acrobat XL, and cannot print pdf forms. When I try, all I get is a half page of the document.

Still does not work for me.

Windows 7 Home Premium (preinstalled, from Dell).

Adobe Acrobat 10.2.1.

Printer: HP5652.

- Cannot print pdfs on the printer using the standard "print" button / menu option.  I can see the file appear in the printer queue for a split second, but then it almost immediately disappears. The printer led starts blinking as if it is preparing for printing but nothing happens.

- Any other file types from any other application print OK.

- However printing PDF files to a file works OK (either through Windows XPS printer to an .xps file, or PDF995 to another .pdf file).

- Interestingly, opening the printer queue and drag-dropping a pdf file to it works OK with the real printer. This is not the ideal solution though!

Uninstalled and re-installed Adobe. Rebooted.

Applied abovementioned patch (correcly, checked the log). Still cannot print. Rebooted. Still cannot print.

Any ideas, any plans for a further patch?

Try downloading the patch.  You can locate it by going to the Adobe Reader Forums page.  At the top there is an announcement regarding printing problems and a link to the patch.

I saw the “PDF printing quick fix: Print as image”

I didn’t find a direct link to a fix, but just a link to download the Reader. Already done that. Wouldn’t think there would be a fix required for the program download done just this morning.

The directions below the quick fix say to go to File > Print, and then click Advanced. Can’t get that for. I open pdf file and go to File/Print. Nothing happens for few seconds, then file closes up. Wish I could get to dialog box, but can’t. I know the printer works because all MS files print fine.

Could it be that a setting got changed in the operating system?

I have copied the information that I found on the Adobe website - it fixed my problem because I was having the same issue.  Hope it helps.

1. Log in to your computer as an Administrator.

5. Once the process is completed, you receive a prompt stating the result of the operation.

NOTE: When run in silent mode, all dialog boxes are suppressed. No success message or error message appear.

6.  A log is created in the temp directory (%temp%) with the name AcroPatchApplication1012.log. (The changes sometimes only takes effect only after you restart your computer.)
