Cannot access document

Question

Trying to opena pdf file. Using adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Error message comes up. "There was an error in opening this document. The file cannot be accessed by the system." I am able open the same document on other computers ( pdf is in Dropbox) using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. There is no problem using any other computer.

Hi William,

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described, You are unable to open the PDF (stored in Dropbox) and getting the above error.

Please download the file to your computer locally and then try to open it with Adobe Acrobat/Reader DC and check.

Also please try to turn off the protected mode (Win Only) and see if that works for you. Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup' , Turn off the protected mode and uncheck Enhanced Security > Click OK and reboot the computer once.

Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risks.

If turning off the security works for you, please try to add the file and the folder location to Adobe Acrobat Whitelist as follows: Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Add file and Add Folder path > Click OK
