Cannot open files with new Adobe Reader DC
There is a lot of misinformation about changing Registry settings for Protected View, but no viable solutions.
Installed current (and up to date) version of Adobe Reader DC (18.009.20044).
Have gone through process of upgrading, restarting, uninstalling, restarting, and installing again.
Some .PDF files (usually Fillable Forms) will NOT open in Adobe Reader DC.
The typical error is:
There was an error opening this document. Failed to load an application resource (internal error).
But we also see the following error message:
Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download. We need someone from Adobe in the United States of America who understands English to respond to this.
Please do not route this through India because generic or wrong information is usually given.
