Cannot see text from comment tool Reader DC ver 2021-005-20048

Comment tool quit functioning. Cannot read comments posted to page though can see very lightly shaded text if scaled all the way up to 24. This is a new problem and I have tried a complete uninstall, reinstall, download fresh etc. 
Very disappointing. It seems to be in a recent update?

The only thing I see for solutions are much older versions. 

What I see when typing text (text box or no box, no difference)

What I see when I click outside of the box

What I see when I click on the comment in the side bar (or manage to find it with the cursor

What I see for my options on the Comment toolbar

What I see when opening up the Font settings is standard - there are no transparency settings available anywhere

Please advise
