Question

Change language

When I click a link in Calc that opens a PDF document, Adobe Reader asks me every time which language version of the program to launch — the English one or my native Polish one. Is there a way to disable this?

    Hi casual_Cadencedcb9,

    Thank you for reaching out.

It seems that Acrobat Reader may have multiple language packs installed on your system. If you're opening PDFs in different languages, this could explain why you're being prompted to choose a language each time you open a PDF from Calc.

To resolve this, you can set a specific language in Acrobat Reader's preferences by following these steps:

    • Go to Menu > Preferences > Language.

    • Change the Application Language to a particular language.

    • Restart Acrobat and try opening a PDF again.

If you continue to see the language selection message, please share a screenshot of the message for further assistance.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

Thanks, but that doesn’t solve the problem because in the settings I have it set to Polish. And I still get the option to choose the Reader application language when I click the link to the document in Calc.

    Hello @casual_Cadencedcb9

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. We’re sorry for the trouble you had.

Could you please share more about the issue and the workflow?

Are you on a Mac or Windows machine, and what is the OS version?

What is the current version of the Acrobat Reader app installed? Check for Menu (Windows) | Acrobat (Mac) > Help > About Adobe Acrobat.

Does the language-selection prompt appear only when opening PDFs from Calc, or also when opening PDFs directly from File Explorer/Finder?

    Suggestions:

Check that Acrobat/Reader is not set to ask for the language at startup.
Open Acrobat/Reader directly from the Windows Start menu, then go to Menu > Preferences > Language.
In Application Language, do not leave it on Choose at application startup.

Choose at application startup the setting that causes the Language Selection dialogue to appear for multilingual installs.

Select Polish / polski if available, or Same as the operating system if Windows itself is set to Polish.

Please note that the free Reader: that dropdown only shows the languages that were installed with your copy.

So, if the language you want is not in the list, selecting "Choose at application startup" will not make it appear, because it was never installed.

You may have to reinstall the app/Acrobat Reader as per the language and the version: https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

Make sure the Polish language support is actually installed.
On Windows, Adobe’s current language-change workflow is:

Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Acrobat > Change > Modify > Next, expand the language list, select the language you want, choose This feature will be installed on the local hard drive, then select Install > Finish.
After installing the language, restart Acrobat/Reader and test the PDF.

I hope this helps, and please reach out if you need any further assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
