Clicking on 'print file' causes it to open the disk save menu

I recently saved a pdf to disk and since then I cannot open a pdf file from an online source. It automatically goes to saving the file to disk and then I have to open it and print it from disk. This is causing rather a collection of pdf files that I do not want. I have uninstalled and re-installed acrobat reader to no avail. Any suggestions?

I don't think there's an option in Firefox to print a file type directly, but you can set it to open instead of saving it.

To do it go to Tools - Options, scroll down to Applications and then search for "pdf", and change the default action associated with it.
