Hi all,

scince Adobe Reader can open multiple files in different tabs i have the problem, that i alwas need to manually close the Adobe Reader program. Closing the last (or only one opened) tab does not automatically close the Reader program itself. Is there an option to do that?

If not, why it is programmed that way?

Background: Opening files needs one action, closing files needs two actions. It's annoying.

This is how all software works. Closing the document does not close the application.

If you do the opposite and close the application, all open documents will close by necessity. Be careful if you choose to do this — if you go too fast you might close unsaved documents that you forgot to save.

When I open files, it requires two steps, not one:

  • Launch the application
  • Open the document

These two steps can be combined by opening files from Window File Explorer instead of from within the application.

Really, Jane? Your reply may be technically correct, but I also find it disengenuous. I believe that Chrome and Edge work exactly as he suggests. I also believe that the vast majority of people view PDFs by double-clicking the file from Explorer or viewing from the browser downloads, thus combining the two steps in one. This application-centric view of the world is rather outdated. It would be technically trivial for the application to combine those two steps in one.

The solution for combining those two steps in one exists. Quit the application and the documents close.

If you want to make a feature request that the developers will see, you can do that on UserVoice:

All the community volunteers can do is to tell you how things work.
