Contradictory Updater Information

Ok, so I have an adobe updater process that runs in the background all the time. Every now and then it tells me there is a new version available. Recently, it told me there was a new version available, but when I went into my Acrobat Reader DC and chose "Check for Updates" under the "Help" menu, it told me there were "no updates available"!

It would seem to me that someone is lying! ^^

What I am wondering is how could it be that I get this contradictory information. Could it be that the process I think is an automatic updater is really spoofware?

I always thought it a bit strange that the Adobe Updater Process when viewed in the Task Manager did not display an Adobe logo, but rather just a black generic process icon.

Have I been hacked? How can I tell if my Adobe Updater Process that I see running in my task manager is the real deal?

Yes, entirely different product. Acrobat Reader knows nothing about Flash Player or its updates. Not even an African Swallow. Flash Player is not an application, by the way.

Can you please post images of "Recently, it told me there was a new version available" and "it told me there were "no updates available"! "

What operating system is it? Which exact Reader version is installed? Is this machine managed by your company? Was it custom install?

You can validate "my Adobe Updater Process" by looking at it's file path in the Task Manager, right mouse click on this file and check digital signature.

I am running Windows 8.1.

My Adobe Reader DC version is 19.008.20081.

My favorite color is green.

This machine is managed by me.

I do not recall the install details. It was too long ago.

Here is "recently told me there is a new version available". This is the "Update Adobe Flash Player Pop-up" that pops up on screen as if it were an informing me of an automatic update. I do not run automatic updates and ask Adobe to inform me first. So this looks normal for Adobe.

But when I go into my Adobe Reader DC (latest version) and go under help . . .

. . . . and select the command "Check for Updates". My adobe Reader DC tells me that there are . . .

Now if Adobe Flash Player needed to be updated then wouldn't the update show up here? Or is Adobe Flash player completely different because it is a different application?

Don't all Adobe products use the same updater service? I was under the impression they do?

Also, when I go into the task manager, I have this process called "Adobe Acrobat Update Service 32".

The process seems legit and runs under the path C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0

Digital signature seems correct.

I am guessing the Adobe Flash Player updater runs on a different update process or has a separate front end? It just seemed odd to me that I was getting a notification to update flash player and there was no update available when I checked it parallel under Adobe Reader DC >>>Help >>> Check for Updates. I gather these are two different balls of wax or tarballs or applications or processes or whatever right?

btw. The airspeed velocity of a coconut laden swallow depends on the mass of the coconut and the type of swallow. ^^
