Question

Create individualized copy of pdf form that includes individual student IDs.

Hello,

Using Adobe Acrobat DC, I've created a PDF form with descriptive texts (Questions) and form fields where students can fill in their answers directly in the PDF. This works well. In the end students are supposed to hand in their completed PDF file.

What I would like to add however are one or two additional fields, that import the student ID or name from an excel file with all the student IDs and then create an individualized copy of the pdf for each student that I then will send to each of them (via a mail merge with individual attachments).

For example:

"This document belongs to [Name]"
"Student number: [ID]"

And an individual pdf name, e.g.: [ID]_Study_Orientation_Excercise.pdf

I would rather automatize this process, as letting students do this manually brings the risk that the fields are left empty or that mistakes are made when filling this in. Later those fields would serve to link the answers to other data of those students.

Is there any way to create such individualized copies automatically?

Thank you for your ideas.

This process is called a Mail Merge and it's possible to achieve it in Acrobat using a script, like this (paid-for) one I've created that has all of the features you mentioned, plus an option to automatically email the merged files to the students, if you have their email addresses in your data file. You can find it here: http://try67.blogspot.com/2011/09/acrobat-mail-merge-and-email.html
