Documents opening in Browser rather than Adobe Acrobat Reader

This is very frustrating, and I cannot get this to change.  Any time I open a document to view it is taking me to the internet explorer and will not allow me to open directly into Adobe Acrobat Reader

When I go to preferences, the option to default open in Adobe pdf is not available.
