Thank you for reaching out. Based on your description, the PDF may be password-protected or have security settings. This may explain the “Unlock Document” message and the password prompt that appears when opening, printing, or sharing the file.

To better understand the document settings, let us know:

• Did you create the PDF, or was it sent to you? If you created the file but no longer have the password, it cannot be recovered. The correct password or authorization is required to unlock the document and remove its protection.

• If the PDF was shared via email, the password may be included in the original email, in a separate message, or in the accompanying instructions. Please review those communications for the password or the required format.

• If the file was received from another source and you cannot change its security settings, the owner or creator may need to remove the restrictions or provide an unrestricted copy.

  
  

If the PDF opens without a password but restricts editing, copying, or printing, a permissions password is required to remove those controls. In Acrobat, go to All Tools> Protect a PDF > Set Security Properties> Change Settings.
