I have a PC with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. The past few days when opening "PDF" files

in Acrobat reader have been getting error message "0xc0000022" saying unable to open

application - I click OK box disappears and file does open. I have tried uninstalling the

Reader and re-installing but still get the message. Any clues on how to cure this.

Thanks, cym2862

I had similar problem.  The 0xc0000022 error message would pop up whenever I opened a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader.  I would close "X" about 3 - 9 times and I would be able to access document.  However, it was a nuisance.

I spoke with the folks at Microsoft and we went thru:

1. First try. Uninstall and reinstall of Adobe Acrobat Reader.  Error code disappeared for awhile and after a few off/on the Error code appeared again.

2. Second try. Went thru an entire malwarebyte.com debug and uninstalled / reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader.  It worked awhile and then problem cropped up again.

Note: I believe that the Adobe program does an auto update and reconfigures the app and that generates the error message.

3. Third and final try. We right clicked on the app and went to Compatability and scroll down to Run this program as Administrator (see image below).  Good news you don't get the Error message.  Bad news you are asked each time if you want to open as Administrator and allow AAR to make changes to computer (OS...is guess).  This is still a pain and it should be a simple click of a PDF document to open.

Note: You cannot get chat or phone support thru Adobe you have to go to Community Forum...hence I'm here.

Final decision: Due to the hassles I have set up "PDF Viewer Plus" as my default reader. Information on using PDF Viewer Plus

I found out about "PDF Viewer Plus" since it came with my Nuance Paperport  12 & 14 scanning app.  Paperport is a great scanning app!  Now I hope I won't confuse things but there are actually two image viewers on Paperport.  You have "PDF Viewer Plus" as a embedded and a standalone app and "Image View" within the Paperport  12 & 14 app.  You can "Open with..." a PDF document  with PDF Viewer Plus but cannot with "Image View" (you have to be in Paperport 12 or 14).  These are both great PDF readers and you can make edits like you would in Acrobat.   I like to display in Acrobat, however Image View is best to view and edits but you have to have your document moved in Paperport 12 or 14 first.  The display and the edit toosls are better than Acrobat.

I'm replying to my own question - problem solved - no help from Adobe - deleted it entirely and

installed new .PDF reader - better and no problems. I was about to update to better version -

thank goodness that I didn't - better programs, no malware and better support. Ciao Adobe
