Error encountered while BER decoding Digital Signatures

Hello,

I am facing the issue with signing PDF document with Adobre Acrobat Reader DC version: 21.005.20060

This is the error I am getting:

Error during signature verification.

Error encountered while BER decoding:

When I click to save signed document Adobe freezes (Not responding status) and after it crashes, the file is saved, but the certificate is invalid and shows the error from above.

Can you please help me to solve the issue. I have already used this option inside Acrobat Reader DC before, for the same certificate without any issues. CA certificate is valid (until 2023.)

If you're experiencing issues with applications like Adobe Acrobat Reader not being able to access your digital signature certificate's private key stored in Keychain Access, or if you simply want an extra layer of security, you might need to adjust its access control settings. Specifically, enabling "Confirm before allowing" ensures that macOS will prompt you for confirmation every time an application attempts to use that private key.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

  1. Open Keychain Access (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access).
  2. Find your private key (the key icon) for e.g. the PostSignum certificate.
  3. Right-click on it and select "Get Info".
  4. Go to the "Access Control" tab.
  5. Check the box for "Confirm before allowing".
  6. Click "Save Changes".

That's it! Now, macOS will prompt you for confirmation every time the key is accessed.

I had the same problem. Plus that the Adobe closes automatically after signing.

The solution that worked for me is in the Preferences of Adobe:

Edit/Preferences/Security (Enhanced)

Enable Protected Mode at Startup (must be off), Protected View Off

checked must be only Enable Enhanced Security, Automatically trust documents..и Automatically trust sites..

Hope this will help u

I have similar problem on many computers in company. When signing, I get same error:

Error during signature verification.

Error encountered while BER decoding:

Sign is invalid

But only on my computer in my company it is ok. Sign is valid. There are no difference between Acrobat reader version (DC 21.7.20099.454979) and key card drivers.

In another app for signing works well everywhere.

Any ideas to solve? We need use Acrobat Reader for signing in specific situations.

Hello... were you able to solve this? I'm facing a similar situation with one PC that is not capable of adding a valid signatures. It saves the file, Adobe reader crashes, and when you reopen the file, the signature is not valid ,reporting the BER encoding issue. What's interesting is that the user has had the chance to apply signatures to other documents "sometimes" but we haven't understood the pattern that allows the user to sign some docs but others not..

You Should repost this in the Acrobat forum rather than the Adobe Sign forum if you haven't already,
