ERROR MESSAGE NEED HELP URGENTLY!

Hi guys,

I get the following error message when I try to open a pdf file, after I download from my email:

"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."

My colleague who sent it to me said it opens up fine on his computer. Any ideas how to fix this problem please? I am using a MacBook Pro.
