I am getting an error message when I open a PDF that the file is damaged. The workarounds mentioned in this article are so complicated that I don't know where to start. It can't be this hard to use this product.

    Hi Kim,

Sorry for the delay in response to your query and apologize for the inconvenience caused. HKLM is the registry hive and you can open the registry entry by typing the command regedit.exe in Run(Windows OS). Open the kye by navigating to the location given in the following KB doc Resolve damaged document error when opening PDF files and make the changes.

If the issue still persists, please share the following details:

    • Is it a Mac or Windows machine?
    • Dot version of Reader installed, check it from Help>About Adobe Reader
    • Is it happening with all the PDF files or with one PDF file?

Hope this helps, and let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

Can you help? I am trying to download PDFs on both Mac and PC (I'm using Parallels on a Mac) and I receive the error message that the file is damaged. I get this error message on both the Mac and PC side. I have read your article, but I have no idea what HKLM is or where to even find anything this article refers to. I tried downloading Acrobat DC, but it says I have the most current version. Can you provide some better guidance so I can easily open PDFs?
