Error message when I try to open a pdf “There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (15:3). Why and how can I fix it?

I keep getting error message when I try to open a pdf “There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader.  If it is running, please exit and try again. (15:3).  Why and how can I fix it?  I have uninstalled are reinstalled, I have gone into adobe and unchecked the "enable advanced security mode at startup" (paraphrasing), I've done repairs and nothing works.  I thought doing the DC distribution link I found in a forum was going to work but it didn't.  I don't know what the message even means as to if it is running....can anyone help?

    Hello Cathyh,

    If the above-mentioned  steps were not able to fix the issue, then use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove the Acrobat/reader, Cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs  Link: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

    Restart the computer and then download and install the Acrobat from Download Pro or Standard versions of Acrobat DC, 2017, XI, or X

    Reader Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution Link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

    If the issue still persists, then try to create a new user account, or enable the hidden administrator account and check.

    Hello Cathyh,

    We apologize for the inconvenience caused, as per the description above, you are getting an  error message that there is a problem with Acrobat/Reader......, Is that correct?

    Please try the troubleshooting steps from the following KB doc Error "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running cannot … view PDF …" Adobe Acrobat and Reader  Link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-acrobat-reader-running-cannot.html

    If the issue persists, please share the following details:

    • Dot version of Acrobat/Reader installed, check from Help>About Acrobat/Reder.
    • Is it a Mac or Windows machine?

    Hi,

    thank you for your email.  I tried what you posted and it didn't work.  same situation.  my version is 2017.012.20093.  I have windows 7.  thanks again!
