Question

Error opening Acrobat Reader DC for first time

Just installed Acrobat Reader DC.  There was a big prompt, black text on blue background, saying "Adobe Reader has a new look."  But if you click the Learn More button, I get an error popup.  ... could not open 'homerdr1_12_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged ...

Considering I installed and selected "Launch", this appears to be something on your end.  Your installer just got finished.  Clean Windows 7 Home Premium (complete system reload).

    Hello Yehoodi,

Sorry for the delay in response to your query and apologize for the inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you are getting an  error message while launching the Acrobat Reader DC on Windows 7 machine, Is that correct?

Please try the  following steps to fix the issue:

    • Close all PDF files if open and Quit the Reader DC.
    • Open Task Manager and kill all the Adobe-related process.
    • Restart the computer.
    • Right Click on Acrobat Reader and choose Run as Administrator.

If the issue still persists, please remove the Acrobat Reader DC using the Acrobat Cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Restart your computer and then download and install the Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution  Link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Hope this works, and keep us posted with the results.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
