Every time I try to open preferences in Reader, it closes. Help please.

Pretty much what it says in the topic there. I'm trying to get into preferences to address a different issue of not being able to open pdf files through anything but using reader directly, but every time I click on preferences, Adobe shuts down. I have windows 10 and the most up to date version of reader. No idea what to do here.
