excel spreadsheets being converted to pdf without my permission

I recently used a 7 day trial of Acrobat

the trial ended and I haven't purchased anything

All I have is Reader

now, I'm being sent excel spreadsheets by a vendor via email but they show up as pdf documents that I can't open

what is going on?????

    It is likely that your operating system is accidentally associate excel files with Acrobat. Right-click on one of the files that you download and look for the Open With option. Choose Excel. Does that work?

    microsoft told me that when I used the Adobe Acrobat version during the trial, it automatically changed my default applications including opening excel with adobe pdf...so I had to go into file associations and change it back to excel..that worked
