FDF, mailForm and Reader DC

Good morning all.

I am using Acrobat Pro DC to create a "smart" form. One of the form features is the option to email form field data as FDF at the press of a button.

My problem is that although this works in Acrobat, it does not work in Acrobat Reader DC.

According to the Acrobat Javascript Scripting Reference #5431 however, it seems that this feature is available in Adobe 5.1 Reader, but requires Advanced Forms Features Rights.

So, After completing the development of the form, I save it as Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools...

Unfortunately, it does not work. Am I missing something here? Is Acrobat Reader DC a version that does not support this feature? How/where can I find Adobe 5.1 Reader?

You see this feature is critical for the distribution of the form and if a workaround cannot be found, I will most probably lose the assignment....

Any help appreciated!

The mailForm method requires a special right to work in Reader, but you don't need to use it. The submitForm method will do pretty much exactly the same thing.

Reader DC can certainly submit form data. What exact code did you use?

Hello try67.

I also had the same certainty...

here is my code:

this.mailForm({bUI:true,cTo:"mymail@somemail.com",cSubject:"ERS FDF test",cMsg:"Test message to check FDF functionality"});

(where mymail@somemail.com is posing as a valid email address), which works PERFECTLY on Acrobat, but somehow fails on Reader.

Anyway, I changed it to:
this.submitForm("mailto:mymail@somemail.com");

and it works on Reader as well. Funny thing though... I'm pretty sure the first time I tested it, I received a popup asking me which email service to use (outlook or other) but after that, nothing.

Adobe Acrobat can't add Form Rights!

Adobe Acrobat can add Form Save Rights.
