Fill & Sign giving me an x in a box

I use the fill and sign tool often to paste my signature into documents. Today it stopped working and converted my signature into a box with an x.  I think I received a memory full warning as well but can't get that error to come back again.  Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know how to fix it?
