Getting Save as prompt when updating PDF file in the user appdata temp directory

Users are getting Save As prompt consistently when they try save a PDF file that stored physically in user appdata/local/temp directory rather than save the changes to the same file which we opened.

Anyone see this before?

We have a similar problem after updating from Acrobat Reader from 2017 to 2020 (Classic Track).

We always got a save-as-prompt on 2017, but the default path was always the path were the file was saved, so you just had to click the save button.

Now with 2020, after changing a pdf-file saved under appdata/local/temp, it defaults to the documents folder instead, making it very difficult to save it at its original location.

Saving the file in its original location is essential for the functionality of a 3rd party application monitoring its changes.

Is there a solution to update a file opened from a temporary directory without having to search for the path? Changing the path to documents is undesirable. (Adobe Acrobat Reader 2024.002.20759 64bit).

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check.

What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 24.02.20759 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

Also try to repair the installation from the help menu (Win Only) and see if that works.

Please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://adobe.ly/3xeBRPW and check.
