Have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, can't edit files

As the title states, I cannot edit PDF files. The program worked fine for me a few weeks ago, not when I click edit I get a Learn More button. I double checked and I have;

Creative Cloud for individuals - Acrobat Pro DC with Adobe Stock (one-year)‎

I've quit the program, and re-opened. Same issue. I've upgrading to a higher level of Pro, still nothing. What am I missing here?

I hope this helps someone. I was having the same issue. Then i realised i needed to download the specific version of adobe from the app store that i bought. For me that was Adobe Acrobat DC. My issue is i kept signing into adobe acrobat reader DC.

I am still having this issue. I also have a subscription to Adobe Acrobat DC and have used it extensively and after a year of use, TODAY it has decided that it no longer wants to let me edit PDFs! My subscription is still active and nothing has changed.

As someone said in a previous post, for being a long-time Adobe customer, you'd think they would make more of an effort to help us.

What happens when you use Tools > Edit PDF ?

I had this same issue, after installing and subscribing to Adobe Acrobat 'DC'; and when trying to set as default app for '.pdf' files.

I uninstalled the original Adobe Acrobat 'Reader XI' that was installed, and this made all '.pdfs' default to opening with the newly installed and subscribed to  Adobe Acrobat 'DC'.

This is my first post, so hope it helps; for i see this is a multi-year long issue/concern!:)

What do you see? Especially, if you're on Windows, what do it say in the title bar?

Look at the app name when you are just about to edit (before you click Learn more). The app name is shown on the menu bar at the top, right next to the apple icon. It might say Acrobat or Acrobat Pro or Reader or Acrobat Reader or Adobe Reader or Preview or something else.

    What does it say?

It says Acrobat Reader when I open it in Reader and Acrobat Pro when I open it in my newly downloaded Pro. This came on slowly, being more and more stubborn each time I returned to the document to work on it. Usually, toggling between the blue arrow that is the "selection tool for texts and images" and the little hand next to it that you use to "click and pan around document" corrected it. It became more and more stubborn and is now Froze.

    Merry Christmas and thank you!

I purchased Acrobat Pro DC subscription (one-year) 6-7 months ago and had very few issues with it other than the insane font incompatibility issues.

Now I am unable to EDIT PDFs. Is this is a Windows10 related issue?  I recently converted from Windows7 to Windows10. With Windows 7, I had no issues with "Edit PDF". After opening a file in what appears to be the normal program, I click on TOOLS. IT goes to the "Learn More", then takes me to a Subscription page. I am being asked to re-subscribe! Why? Something doesn't appear to be compatible. This is getting very frustrating!

If resetting Adobe Acrobat as the default is the issue, you would think this would happen automatically on the re-download. Can someone point me to a link that can fix this? Do I need to uninstall everything Adobe and re-install Acrobat Pro DC? HOW DO I DO THAT? I find Adobe website to be extremely unfriendly with troubleshooting. It should walk right through ans fix any Windows10 compatibility issues for paid subscribers. When I right click on a PDF file, highlighted option is "open with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC".  That opens the PDF file but going to TOOLS repeats the above. I appreciate real and meaningful help that will walk me through this to get to the program I am paying for. Thank you!

you must run Acrobat Pro. Stop running Acrobat Reader. Use the START button to get the right app running, never mind double clicking on a PDF.

    Hi

I am having the same problem. I have a year long subscription titled: "Acrobat Pro DC Subscription (one year, pre-paid)". I am trying to edit PDFs using 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC' and I am being told I need to subscribe to be able to access this feature.

This is crazy! Can someone please explain how to fix this or alternatively give me a refund for my year long subscription which does not enable me to do anything.

    Thanks!

You must use Adobe Acrobat, not Acrobat Reader.

It sounds like the problem is that you have both Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader installed. You should either uninstall the "reader" software or make sure Acrobat Pro is set to be your DEFAULT for opening PDFs. If you have Pro installed but you're opening PDFs with the Reader software then you're not going to be able to edit the file. You need to ensure the PDF file is being loaded into Acrobat PRO.

maryj please go to the Help menu and look for About. Does it say About Acrobat Pro or About Acrobat Reader?

There are two different Adobe products:  Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and Adobe Acrobat DC.  In order to access the "Edit" function for PDFs, you have to have Adobe Acrobat DC downloaded and installed.  The problem went away after I downloaded Adobe Acrobat DC.  I was finally able to edit my PDFs once again.

The crucial thing is that you now have TWO apps: Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader. You have to choose the right one to run.
