Highlighter Comment Box

Whenever I highlight anything in Reader it automatically generates a comment box which drives me insane. This just happened as of last night 10.3.18. Prior to the update when I had the correct settings in the comment tab of preferences the box would not pop up. Now with those same settings it still pops up regardless. Any solutions? Or is this just a glitch with the new update? Which by the way, I hate so far because there is also now the tool "shortcuts" plastered on the right of my screen and I can't hide those either.
