Question

How can I make Adobe Reader restore last view

The title is not exactly accurate. I know how to make the Reader (currently Reader DC) "restore last view settings when reopening documents." What I don't know is how to make it retain those settings for a long time. If I have set a book aside for more than a couple of weeks the Reader forgets the information. I was overjoyed when I found Reader DC actually saved the settings for many books, but today I was disappointed because the books are all opening at the front page.  Does it have something to do with the automatic updating? The whole list of recent files is blanked out. This is not a new problem, by the way, it's the way Adobe Reader has behaeved for many years.

It could be that the update has reset those settings. There's not much that can be done about that.

The only other options are to use a script to remember your last reading position by saving it as a "session" and then restoring it later on, or to add a comment to your file when you finish reading it, so you could go back to that location more easily the next time you open it.

The former can be achieved using this (paid-for) tool I've developed: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Acrobat/Reader -- Save and Load Sessions

Note that the sessions do not automatically update, though. You have to manually save them each time.
