How to save my hours of changes before I close Adobe?

I'm stupid or too used to autosave features in Office and Google Docs, and I did not save my changes in my current pdf. (I only learned about turning on auto save after the fact.) So, I got an error message abou an unknown software exception (0xc0000008), and Adobe stopped working. I haven't closed the window and terminated the program yet as I have hours of unsaved changes. Is there any way to save or retrieve them?
