How to stop fake update pop-ups?

I'm running on a Macbook Pro, Sierra, 10.12.6. I fell for the malware that fakes an Adobe update pop up. It's taken a lot of work to get rid of most of the symptoms, but one symptom that persists is the regular fake pop-up of the "update Adobe" window. I know it's fake, because when I double-check updating through the Adobe help, it tells me I'm updated.

I've deleted the Reader application and downloaded it again, but that doesn't seem to help. Anyone know how I can get rid of these last vestiges of the malware? The pop-ups come so often it's a real distraction.

(The malware also occasionally switches my search engine on Mozilla to Yahoo from Google, but I suppose that's a Mozilla issue).

Thanks for any assistance or direction.

I'd ask on a forum that deals more with your OS than here. This isn't a Reader nor is it an Adobe issue. It's a malware issue.

I'll do that. Many thanks.

If these pop ups appear when you browse the web they don’t mean you’re infected, but that someone is trying to infect you. But surely fake updates apply mainly to Adobe Flash, not Acrobat Reader?
