How to stop previously viewed/closed PDFs from reopening?

Each time I open a PDF, Adobe is automatically reopening any PDF that I had just viewed and closed. I closed those PDFs because I was done with them. I don't want previously viewed PDFs to just open again on their own.

Are you asking about the paid Acrobat, or the free Reader?
