How to tell if apparently electronically-signed pdf is legit

Hi.  I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question or not.  Someone sent me a contract (pdf) via email, and it looks like they signed it electronically, and he has asked me to sign it and return it to him.  Two questions:

--How can I know that his signature is actually a legit electonic signature and not just his name written with a script-like font.

--How can I add my signature electronically to the contract?

I have done this before, but it was always done online where both signers could add their signatures.

@Seeking_Info777 yes, when you open your signed PDF. Make sure you open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader (not in a web browser, which may limit functionality). You can see these signature verifications in a banner displayed at the top of the document. This banner can show one of three signature statuses:

  • A green tick with the message: "Signed and all signatures are valid"
  • An orange mark with the message: "At least one signature has problems"
  • A red cross with the message: "At least one signature is invalid"
