Question

How to use activated and downloaded fonts

Hi there, I'm new to using Adobe Acrobat Reader. I am editing a PDF and have downloaded a font called Isabel Unicase as well activated Brandon and Novecento Sans in all different weights, etc. I want to use these in the PDF I am editing but it keeps saying they are not available. Can I fix this? Please help, I'm not sure what to do!

HI Geri,

Well, you're trying to do the impossible, let me see if I can help.

First off, if you are trying to Edit in Adobe Reader, you are facing an impossible task: Reader can only "read" (ergo the name). There is also Acrobat Standard (for the PC) and Acrobat Pro (for Mac and PC), all three of these can Edit. But Reader cannot.

Next: Edit is too powerful a term but that's what we're stuck with. Editing in Acrobat/Pro means that you can fix the spelling of someone's name, fix the date, etc. But if you are trying to do formal editing in Acrobat/Pro, it's beyond the capability of Acrobat/Pro. It's like trying to move the contents of a big house using a small Moped — wrong tool.

If you need to do any level of massive editing, you need to use the program the created the original document, not Acrobat/Pro. The only other alternative if you do not have the original application and original document is to export the PDF into Word, make your fixes, and then re-export it into a PDF.

BTW, Acrobat doesn't really access any system fonts on call. Rather, it takes the fonts used when a document is created and embeds them at that time. You cannot "force-feed" fonts into Acrobat/Pro

I hope this makes sense.

Reader can't really edit PDF files. Are you sure you're not using Acrobat (not Acrobat Reader)?
