Hyperlink to LinkedIn does not work

Issue Description:

The only hyperlink in my PDF resume, which goes to my LinkedIn page, does not work. I have an "email link" elsewhere in the document, it works correctly. I do notice that when I mouse-over the hyperlink, I only see a "edit text cursor." When I mouse-over the email link, I see the "glove" symbol.

System Info.:

Macbook Pro, 2016

OS X, High Sierra, ver. 10.13.2

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, ver 2018.011.20038 .   (ver of Acrobat Reader where hyperlink doesn't work)

Microsoft Word for Mac, ver 16.11.1    (I'm exporting the doc. as a PDF from here)

I no longer have that implemented in my pdf as no matter how I tried it didn't work.

If that helps. It doesn't work when I hyperlink a graphic object.

If I hyperlink a text then it works.

    Hello @viktoriap59157741!

I hope you are doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine:25.001.20521 Planned update, Jun 02, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

When you hyperlink a text fragment, InDesign automatically treats it as a URL and embeds the full link (including the “https://” scheme). When you link a graphic shape, however, it will only work if:

    1. You include the full, absolute URL, starting with http:// or https://.
    2. You export as an Interactive PDF, not a Print-PDF preset.

    Check Your URL

    • In the Hyperlinks panel, select your shape, click New Hyperlink…

    • Under Link To, choose URL and paste: https://adobe.ly/45al6UC

Don’t omit the https://—Without it, Acrobat (and other readers) will treat the link as relative, leading to a 404.

    Export as Interactive PDF

    • Go to File → Export

    • Choose Adobe PDF (Interactive) from the Format dropdown

    • In the dialog, under Include, make sure Hyperlinks is checked

    • Click Export

Note: If you use Adobe PDF (Print), object-based hyperlinks often get lost, even if text links survive.

    Test in Acrobat or Chrome

    • Open the exported PDF in Acrobat or Chrome and click the shape.

    • It should jump directly to your LinkedIn page without a 404.

Text hyperlinks get special handling in the Print-PDF workflow, but graphic objects only reliably carry links when you export with the Interactive preset and a properly formed URL.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Anand Sri.

I am having the same issue.
I create a document in Indesign, all other hyperlinks work but Linkeding goes to 404 error with the very same URL I paste into the browser it opens the profile page the link is for.

I hyperlink  a graphic shape. And I copied the URL from top to toe from my LinkedIn profile.
Why the 2 are not compatible?

I have created a PDF file with three hyperlinks in it that work fine when I email, text, or messsge it to others.

However, none of the links work when I post the PDF file on LinkedIn.

    Why?

How do I get the links to work in the PDF file when posted on LinkedIn?

I am having the same, similar issue.
I have created a resume in Adobe XD. The links to my Behance work just fine.
The link to email also fine.

The link to Linkedin, works in when I select the |> to view in adobe xd. And in prototype.
But as soon as I export to PDF. The linkedin links no longer work.
And any prototype hyper links to my portfolio from images are also gone.

Its somewhat maddening, especially because it seems to only be Linkedin at the moment.

Are you viewing the file in Adobe Acrobat/Reader, or in a browser?

I received another opinion about this.

It was suggested that it's because I'm not using Acrobat Professional (Just Reader)

Since you don't have Acrobat it means you are using the PDF creation capabilities of Word, as the free Reader is not capable of creating PDF files. You should get better results with Acrobat.

Is the full URL printed on the page, or is it a hyperlink? If the latter it's an issue with how the file was created, so a Word issue.

If the former then you need to make sure it's the full link, including "http://".
