Question

I can edit one doc but not another on free version of Reader

I downloaded two PDFs from my bank - one downloaded in black and white and I was able to draw a rectangle to redact my account number. The other PDF is in color (different account, same bank) and I am prompted to purchase the Pro version in order to do the same. I am using the free version of Acorbat Reader. Why is this and is there any way around it? TIA

Redaction tools are available only in Acrobat Pro.

Drawing a rectangle with Acrobat Reader's comment tools only hides, it doesn't remove anything.

Redaction is a paid feature, You need a Acrobat DC subscription to redact content in PDFs

There are different possible reasons. E.g. there may be a usage rights signature in one PDF allowing some actions or there may be an XFA form in the other disallowing some actions. Without the files this is difficult to guess.

BUT: Don't think drawing a rectangle over some data is efficient redaction! It is easy to remove that rectangle again and make the data reappear.

Thanks Mike. I didn't think of that re: rectangle. I ended up using I Love PDF to properly redact the docs.

Thanks again.
