Question

I have a PDF file that display correctly in acrobat, but not in reader

The linked pdf file was created in latex, and displays correctly (with the dark blue blackboard 

background) in Acrobat. However, the background disappears in Reader.

AI does not help.
How can one solve the situation?

      This sounds like a PDF rendering issue rather than a problem with the LaTeX document itself. Since the dark blue background displays correctly in Acrobat but disappears in Reader, I would first check whether the background is being created with transparency, overprint, or a page-level overlay. Rebuilding the background as a solid, opaque page-sized rectangle in the LaTeX source may make the PDF more consistent across different viewers. It would also be worth testing the PDF directly after compiling it with LaTeX, before running it through any other PDF-processing software, to see whether the problem is introduced during conversion.

      Note also that if I try to download the Reader from Adobe, it downloads an older version (ending with 12771)  than the one I have installed. So there is a second issue here as well.

      Please try manually updating the application. To do this, go to Menu > Help > Check for updates within the application. Alternatively, you can install the latest update from the following page: 26.001.21789 Out of cycle update, Aug 11, 2026.

      Could you please share a screenshot of how it appears in Acrobat and Reader? Additionally, please check if this issue occurs with this specific file or with others as well.

      I already have that update installed.

      Here is a screenshot of the correct file, as displayed by Acrobat Pro, with a blue background:

       

      Here is how it appears on the Reader, with a white background:

       

       


      This is a situation that happens for all my files with this dark blue background.

      But with all of them. (I have several versions, and it happens with all of them.)
      There is no problem with other files.

      It is a public file, so do not worry about privacy.

      that you can use to test.

      OSX, Desktop, very latest OSX (thus also happens on Tahoe 26.6.2),

      As mentioned, the PDF background appears in Acrobat but disappears in the Reader. Could you please confirm whether you are using the mobile version of Reader or the desktop application? Additionally, please provide the version details for the Reader and the operating system on your device.

      My problem is a Mac Desktop Problem.

       

      I use the MacOS X Reader version (Desktop)

      The OS version is the last one: Tahoe 26.6.1 (25G76)

      The Adobe Reader version is the last one:

      Just for completeness, the file displays correctly, with the dark blue background, on Safari on my iphone (also latest iOS).
