Hi David

Hope you are doing well and thank you for reaching out. As described you have got a protected file and after opening it using the paasword you now want to save it without protection.

Acrobat Reader DC is a freeware application with limited functions. It is used to view, read annotate and fill & sign the PDFs For more information please check the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/reader/faq.html

the option for applying/changing the password settings is available with Adobe Acrobat 2017, Adobe Acrobat 2020 and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC application.

Additional Information :

There are two types of passwords available:

1. Document open password: A Document Open password (also known as a user password) requires a user to type a password to open the PDF.

2. Permissions password: A permissions password (also known as a master password) requires a password to change permission settings. Using a permissions password, you can restrict printing, editing, and copying content in the PDF. Recipients don’t need a password to open the document in Reader or Acrobat. They do need a password to change the restrictions you've set.

If the PDF is secured with both types of passwords, it can be opened with either password. However, only the permissions password allows the user to change the restricted features.

For more information about how to, please check the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/securing-pdfs-passwords.html
