Question

I need Reader with the old toolset

I recently upgraded from Mac 10.9 to 10.13, and my old Reader disappeared. I downloaded a new Reader, only to find that I couldn't edit on it without subscribing. So I did that, but the tools are completely different and not useful for my purposes. I am involved in two projects where I exchange files with changes made in the old way. I need to be able to do that. I tried downloading an older version of Reader, but it was transformed on download and was the same as the new Reader. I am very desperate.

    Hi.

It actually sounds like you weren't using an older version of Reader but you were using the full version of Adobe Acrobat.

It's hard to say what you have actually subscribed to but there are two options. One option is the pdf pack that allows you to create and convert pdf files (along with a few other things) via the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. The other subscription (if you choose "Edit" in Acrobat Reader) will actually subscribe you to the full version of Acrobat (just like you had but a newer version). You can't access that via Reader, you have to download Acrobat separately and use the to wok on your pdf files.

Thank you. After looking through a raft of "help" documents, I did finally discover that I needed to be looking at the Comment tools rather than the Edit tools, so all is well, except that I'd rather have continued getting these tools free. The Edit tools are really about creating pdf files, which is not what I want to do, but I now know where to go to get what a need. Thanks again.

A limited number of commenting tools are in the free Reader. None have been removed.
