I want to view pdfs in browser window without saving

Suddenly, starting about a month ago, most of the pdf links I click on (in web pages) won't open unless I save them to my computer first.  I don't want to be forced to save them and have them taking up space.  They used to just open in a new tab (and maybe automatically save to downloads...?).  I'm using a mac, and it's the same problem in both Safari and Chrome.  I've tried playing with content settings/preferences, but it makes no difference which boxes are checked/unchecked. Is there a way to go back to just VIEWING before deciding if I want to save?

Seems strange.  I've been using Chrome  as the default browser on my mac for years, and only recently started having this issue.  I don't care which reader it uses - I just want it to open without a "save" window first.

If you're going to use Chrome, then you'll want to find a Chrome support avenue.

    Hi rkoo,

After downloading the PDF file does it open automatically in the safari browser using Adobe reader Plugin?

Also can you share with us a screenshot from Safari > Preference > Security > Plug-in Settings. (check image)

I usually use Chrome.  I tried opening a pdf link in Safari, just now and it didn't ask me to save - though it DID automatically save it to my downloads (not ideal, but at least it's not an extra step for me).

So I guess it's just Chrome I'm asking about now.  Is there an equivalent chain I can look at for Chrome?

Chrome uses its own viewer and isn't compatible with Adobe Reader.
