Inconsistently reported 'Character Encoding' failures

I have a user who’s consistently producing documents that include character encoding failures when I or her supervisor run the Accessibility Checker. Yet when she scans the documents using the Accessibility Checker, she sees no error.

What could cause her not getting a failure on the accessibility check?

We are all using the same version of Acrobat. She and her supervisor are using the “new” user interface, I’m using the legacy UI - so we’re seeing the failures when the check is run in both the new & legacy UI, and failing to see them in a case where the user is running the new UI.

Figured out what was driving this: User had switched off character encoding checks in the results tree. (Not clear why or when.)

Also not clear where the bad characters came from because I had her re-do the export in front of me & it didn’t happen in that version.

    Hello @erics25041409,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. Good catch, and thanks for posting the fix; that is exactly it. When a rule is switched off in the results tree (right-click a check > Skip Rule. Acrobat deselects it in the Accessibility Checker Options dialogue for that document and skips it on every subsequent check.

Suggestion: run Accessibility Check again, open Options (Change Options in the results panel), tick all checks (especially Character encoding), then Start Checking. For more details, you can refer to this article: https://adobe.ly/4xeCnXu

Please feel free to reach out if you need any assistance.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.
