Install Reader NO MCAFEE

The threads I’m seeing on this are some 15 years old, so.. here we go. Again.  Exploding with rage, because Adobe has managed to kill 3 more hours of productivity today.

Stupidly upgraded to the disaster that is called paid version of Acrobat.  Quickly uninstalled, subscription cancelled.

Then I went to reinstall Reader and there’s no box to decline McAfee. (Nor is there a way to STOP the installation process, aside from CTRL-ALT-DEL, which I engaged in a panic.)

Is there no way to  install without McAfee these days?  If so, please list your fav alternate pdf reader.

Thanks to the community. Middle finger (as usual) to Adobe.

    Hello @operaflute

I hope you are doing well, and thank you for reaching out. We’re sorry for the trouble you had.

You can use the direct download link to download and install the freeware Acrobat Reader app: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Also, the link you shared is to download the Acrobat Pro 64-bit application. If you wish to download Acrobat Pro, then use the link you posted.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Anand Sri.

On that note, anyone know if the version here gives the option.  Frankly, I don’t trust clicking any Adobe download button anymore.  I consider them to be ransomware at this point.

Yep, was able to install without McAfee. It is, unfortunately a newer version than what I was running, and it has no native way to prevent updates.  (Nope, no longer trust that adobe’s “security updates” are actually or only for security - note the FCC took them to task at least once for deceitful business practices.)

There are ways around this, I realize, but, it’s just one more item in the “adobe is absolutely predatory” column, IMO.
    Thanks for the help, all.
