Issue with saving pdf annotations from microsoft edge to adobe acrobat

I currently use Microsoft edge to annotate lecture notes for university which are in pdf form. Usually when I save them to adobe acrobat, the annotations also save, however recently a few of them haven't saved and so I can't access the annotations. I was wondering if you knew why the annotations weren't saving along with the pdf.
