Hi. If I create a password protected pdf and then copy it to a samba server(linux). Can the feature of not copying the file still be used?  I need to do this so that i can share documents in a classroom for viewing but not copying.

There is no feature that can stop a PDF file from being copied, none at all.

There is a security option that stops copying (text and images) in an app. It is widely ignored.

The students will be using windows pcs for viewing, only the server is linux.
