As I already said, Acrobat Reader is for viewing PDFs files. What you want is to play videos, so Acrobat Reader it not the right application for this. You'll need a video player, such as the application called "DVD Player" which comes with macOS.

Thank you so much!! I found it and it works! Very strange that they used to play automatically and then just stopped.
I appreciate your time and patience!
Thank you again.
Susan

It's not strange at all, actually. The "Auto Play" feature of DVDs was a huge security breach that could be easily exploited to run pretty much anything on the local computer just by inserting the DVD into the drive. It's a good thing it was disabled.

Are those history and painting lectures PDFs? How are you trying to open them? Is there an error message then? Can you see the files on the DVDs with the Finder?

I don't know if they are PDFs. On the disc itself at the bottom it says DVD and under that it says 'PD370A'. Does that mean it's a PDF?

What I see with finder are two sections - Audio and Video. The Video section breaks down into about 20 files labeled Video_TS.BUP,
then Video_01_1.VOB, etc but they all only show a box with EXEC in it and the comment that Adobe could not open the file b/c it is not
a supported file type.

No, those are not PDF files. They are folders for a playable DVD media.

Acrobat Reader is for viewing PDF files. Do you have those on your DVDs or what are you trying to view exactly?

What's DCDs?

DCD is a typo -- should have been DVDs.
