MacOS Sierra / Acrobat Reader Update Error 1042

I recently updated my system to MacOS Sierra 10.12 PB3 for testing and Adobe Reader has been acting weird ever since.  I am getting an error now (that used to appear before) regarding error 1042 connecting Adobe Update Server when checking for updates.   I can no longer check or receive updates.

Has anyone else noticed this error?

Has anyone been able to work around it?

Is Adobe aware of it?

I have this issue too. It was happening in El Capitan also. When I reformatted the hard drive and installed Mac OS Sierra and reinstalled all my Adobe Design Premium CS6 products, the problem is still there. I am unable to update my Acrobat Pro X application. It gives me the Error: 1042 every time I try to manually check for updates.

    Hi preterist1,

Could you please try downloading update for Acrobat from here: Adobe - Acrobat : For Macintosh : Adobe Acrobat 10.1.16 Pro update - All languages

Thanks for that suggestion to download the 10.1.16 updater and manually install it. After I wrote the previous post, I went to the Adobe webpage for Acrobat Pro updates and found the 10.1.16 update listed there. I downloaded it and installed it. While it did update my Acrobat Pro to the latest version (10.1.16), it did NOT solve the error message (1042) issue. Every time I check for updates, it still comes up with that error message. It should instead simply say that I have the latest version already and that there are no updates available at this time. That would be a lot more warm and fuzzy to read than seeing a cold and prickly error message pop up on the screen! Know what I mean? :-)

    Hi all,

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Could you please try enabling root user account and then try to update Reader?

Please visit this link on how to enable root user account in Mac: Enabling and using the "root" user in OS X - Apple Support

Hello. He asked for a Mac issue,..not a Windows issue.

I have this problem too. Still present in Sierra 10.12.1. Reinstalling Acrobat makes no difference.

I can still install updates manually by downloading the dmg from the website.

Yeah... he asked about Mac issues, and you link him to something that's Windows only? ZERO help there.. :/
