Manually install Chrome extension?

I'm trying to install the Reader extension for Chrome. This support article says it should happen automatically when I install Reader. This does not seem to be true. I've tried repairing my Reader installation. I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling Reader. At no point am I ever prompted to install the extension as described by the article. Is there any way to manually force this installation to begin/run?
